Truck: MU 1994 XL 3.1 D / Turbo
Rear Shackels, Ball Joint Flip, Trossion Bars wound up ( approx 1.5' lift ), 2.5' Exhaust, 15' ROH Steel Rims, Firestone ATX 23's, Uniden CB Radio, Pioneer 6 disk CD Changer, Airflow Snorkel
Owned the wagon for 6 years, had 102 on the clock, now 166k.
Repairs: Total gear box rebuild after 11months, the main spline gave way and punched a hole through the casing at high speed. New Turbo. Slight leak in the streering pump
(what MU doesnt).
Other than that it goes well....
Thinking of gutting it and building something a little tougher, all depends on if the other half will let me I guess hehehe.. |

Alan Geeves age 46 nearly and one of the original members of club isuzu. 1989 LWB Bighorn owned for 8 years now has 185000km on the clock. Mods are 30mm lift, snorkle, Unifilter in original airbox, LSD rear diff and 2.5 inch exhaust. I also have a set of drop shackles but have not fitted these yet. I bought it fitted with 31x10.5x15 tyres It is still running this size although they are now on Mu mags after a small mishap with the original mags.
Currently running GT Savero MT tyres on these rims but also have a set of Hilux rims with 7.00 x 16 SAT tyres for the hard stuff. It has been a reliable vehicle with the only major repairs being steering box (twice) and clutch. Add to that the usual wheel bearings and other maintenance stuff that you would expect from a 16 year old vehicle that gets the type of abuse this one is subjected to. |

This is Dad's Irmscher. Its main use apart from being Dad's daily driver is towing the boat around the country and occasionally I steal it for trips to the mountain snowboarding.
Its stock suspension wise and runs front and rear LSD, heavy duty clutch, front mounted intercooler, custom cold air intake and a few other bits and pieces. Currently sorting out a turbo upgrade, all ready to bolt on but have had other things come up so its on the back burner |

Front end: cut all bump stops in half, removed sway bar, lowered diff 20mm, Top ball joint flip with 6mm spacer, and screwed the torsion bars up to give a 2 inch lift.
Rear: Repositioned the rear shocks to the centre of the truck behind the axle and fitted a torque arm to the diff. Installed new EFS leaf springs with a 2 inch lift, and made a set of folding shackles. Rancho RS9000 shocks all round.
Body: 35mm lift. Engine: Custom 3" exhaust, removed all emission controllers EGR valves. Fitted an intercooler with fan on the top, custom air pipe from air box to turbo, and a custom snorkel, with K&N filter, an in-cabin boost controller, and adjusted the fuel pump. Protection: Custom bars front and rear with rock sliders and a Ramsley 8000pound winch, 5 point harnesses, roll bar to come. HiMuZuLuz (Steve)
Its a '96 (Gen II) model with all the facelifty bits inside and a 3.1TD motor with 5-speed box. I use machined adaptors bolted to the output flanges of the transfer case to run custom double-cardan (Hilux) driveshafts which terminate at a wide Surf rear axle and a Hilux front axle with wheel spacers to match the width from the rear.
I run 4.88 ratio Hilux diffs, a high pinion Prado one in the front and a V6 (stronger than standard) LSD one in the rear.
The suspension consists of 50mm Isuzu lifted leafs in the rear (spring over and longer shackles for lift) and modified Hilux rear 50mm lifted springs in the front with standard length shackles.
The steering consists of a modified Isuzu pitman arm to take a 40-series landcruiser ball joint, then a 40-series drag link terminating in a Hilux balljoint onto a custom steering arm on the axle knuckle.
The tyres are Simex Extreme Trekker IIs - 36" x 12.5 x 16. |

My truck is a 1989 Birhorn Irmsher R, LWB, standard other than some mud tyres and 2.5inch exhaust.
Getting pretty rough from too many arguments with solid objects off road but still going strong. |

Mudgrip4 (Mike)
Hi all - my name is Mike Anderson, aka mudgrip4, and this is a photo of my 88 swb bighorn before it had some mods done.
It has a 2.5" bigbore ex turbo, front and side bars, breather kit, K&N filter, is pro tuned to 155hp and 345nm of torque. Has extra plating, all breathers lifted, 40ml lift, runs 32" hankook mudgrips, and has tightened lsd in rear.
I've done 90,000ks in it and getting on for 200 tracks and have found it a very tough little truck - an excellent performer on and off the road. I also enjoy the economy 31-32 mpg.
