TF rodeo

Postby paulsnz » Sun Jul 02, 2023 5:07 pm

Hi all, been a hell of a long time since u have been here. Anyway looking at getting a TF rodeo 4x4 but unsure about the pros and cons of the diesel 2.8 vs 3.0.
I had an old 2.8 in a bighorn years ago and it was great got awesome milage and seemed to go well.
How different are the 3.0s are they still simple diesels like the 2.8?
Cheers

Rodeo uses either the 4jj1 or 4jh1 engine. Both great engines. 4jj1 is essentially a bigger 4jb1 with electronic control. A few people have fitted 4jb1 pumps in order to tweak fuel etc. 4jh1 is essentially a modern common rail engine Already goes great but only modification route is to chip it

Thank Geeves, would the the 2.8 version be the same as the bighorn?
Kinda still on the fence with either the 2.8 or the 3.0.
What would be the better base motor the 4jb1t or 4jj1?

2.8 in Rodeo pre 2000 will be a 4jb1t. However they have a timing chain instead of a belt. They also use the smaller filter but not sure if they are the earlier lower horsepower version. 4jj1 is exactly a bigger 4jb1. The electronic control can play up like 4jg2 engines but as long asa its looked after its as good as a 4jb1 with more power

Sorry was mean to say 4jh1 instead of 4jj1. So still the early rodeo, is that much the same as the 4jb1?
