I thought road handling wasn't one of Mu's best highlights. I haven't bought one yet, about to, and the negatives I have read about as the short wheel base and the bad road handling. Is this true?

Car makers moved to the independant front suspension (IFS) design for the benefit of on-road handling.

At standard height, sway-bar and IFS, MU is one of the best on-road 4wds i've experienced.

Has anyone seen a Rav4 cornering? Now that's scary! Don't think they're very good off-road either!

short wheel base can be a good thing the minus is the small cargo area and 3 doors that come with it. On road it can make them twitchy but compared to other 4wds its road handling is good. If your interested in on road handling dont buy any 4wd.

Thanks, I know what you mean, although I have a Freelander 2 and it's road handling is something to see...but it is 2008 and I guess mechanical engineering has moved along a bit since 1992.

Back in the old days you had feet and inches with a foot being 12 inches. A foot was designated by a ' and inches with a " so 31' is very big tyres. I think it should of been 31" tyres.
If you have a 3.1 Mu you have 16 inch rims and probably 265/75/16 tyres which are also 31 inches in diameter

Mine is Long Wheel Base and love its handling.
I've had my terrano lift an inside fr wheel on a sharp corner and it has made me very wary. It was cornering good and just suddenly lurched and lifted the front wheel, no warning, I thought it was gonna roll.
I havent noticed that tendency with my wizard.

My best handling 4x4 was an old holden jackeroo with the petrol engine believe it or not. I was game for anything with that one. I think that was due to its wide foot-print.

is that you Bruce?
I am having a difficult time finding a mechanic who will change a timing belt without charging an arm and a leg. They all say because it is an import there is more stuff to mess with. How much should I pay for a timing belt change?
