You might not like the answer but unfortunately I think it is the direction to look. The alternator belt also drives the water pump. There is a high chance you severely overheated the engine and other things have now happened. Amoungst these is a cracked head but that is not the symptom you are describing. Your engine should be electronically controlled so there is no direct connection between the throttle and pump but the ecu takes care of this plus there are extra sensors over the early engine. If the engine stopped suddenly it may of seized and now has bad compression. What happens if you spray easy start in the intake while trying to start?
Sanding your knuckles before starting work can help. That way you cant skin them
