Towing a caravan

Postby Itstime » Mon May 25, 2020 10:38 am

Hi guys,

Anybody there who is towing a family caravan with his Bighorn? We're in the process of buying one and do not want to change vehicle.

We have a 1996 4JG2 Plaisir XS 7 seater, done 256k. The potential caravan will be unlaiden about 1200 kg.

Any experiences or advice?

Cheers

Take it easy get an additional trans cooler if auto. Get an egt gauge. Wont be the fastest caravan out there but it will be fine

Thanks mate. Yes, it is auto.
I have read of an additional trans cooler. Any suggestions where to source a cooler kit from? (We're in Tauranga if thats important.)
What EGT temp would be normal, what temp critical?

Any oil cooler kit from ripco bnt etc.
EGT is a hard one.Where the sensor is put can make many hundreds of degrees difference. Most common spot is where the egt was but this will read 400 to 500 where if the sensor was a short one where the pipes come together before the turbo could be 600 to 700 or if its a long probe clear of 1000. My thought is note where it is cruising at 100kph and try and keep it under 150% of that figure
