alternator/fan belt

Postby 98Rodeo » Mon Feb 15, 2010 10:41 am

my fan belt let go last night on the way home, had to fashion up a belt from cable ties in the dark so i could get home
only put it around the water pump/fan, was a big ask doing this anyhow as there isnt a lot of room in there.

question is, the brakes are now rock hard aswell, im hoping that this is a side effect of the belt not being on?
the pedal went rock hard shortly after the fan belt coming adrift.

Does anyone know the part numbers for the main belts and the alternator belts for a 1998 td rodeo(aus)

Vacuum pump is on the back of the alternator so no alternator means bad brakes
belt numbers are here

So i figure... while i'm at it..
ill do the timing belt aswell, get the whole kit
and then as that needs the radiator out ill replce the hoses and give it a good flush too
anything else thats there that i should do at the same time which is easier while its all apart?

The rodeo should be gear drive. If it has a black plastic cover it's belt if it's alloy its gear

if the hoses are original or unknown age its worth doing them. 1 of the only 2 times in 14 years my bighorn has been towed home was due to a blown hose and a few engines have decreased themselves due to blown hoses. Even new hoses can go A mate had a top bypass hose go on his nice new LT1 in a cruiser. Result instant geyser. After fixing the hose 7 litres of water were needed for a top up. Luckily I always carry 6 and someone else had the rest.

is the cover on the front of the engine black plastic or aloy. Holden never used the belt drive version of this engine but some were assembled in japan so might have this engine
