Head gasket thickness.. which one?

Postby nb422 » Tue Sep 30, 2014 9:14 am

Well my road truck has a 4jb1 and when I bought it with a broken cambelt it had not bent any valves.. which was great being able to leave the head on. I now have a bush truck with the 4jg2 manual, only 136000kms but seemed like the original cambelt on it (Tensioner dropped its bearing, cambelt jumped a couple teeth and bang), not so lucky.. Bent intake valve in cylinder 1 and 4 it seems.

I have a cracked head off another engine with good valves which are going to get put into this head and now I am looking for a head gasket for the 4jg2. The one i'm looking at is on trademe for $83 but says it is 1.45mm thickness and for the 4jg2t, whereas the 3 options on 'partzonline' say 1.60, 1.65 and 1.70mm.. I'm confused as to what is the correct thicknesses, I do understand that there is 3 thicknesses for this motor but have no idea what they are....
Any help will be greatly appreciated :)

your meant to get the head off check the piston protusion out of the block then pick the correct headgasket, if in doubt just put the thickest one on, may lose abit of power but not noticable

Cheers. The difference between 1.45mm and then another saying 1.60mm, 1.65mm, 1.70mm has me confused as to which options are correct for the 4jg2 though. Will have to check in the morning i suppose :?

Thanks :) Looks like i'll stay away from the one that says its 1.45mm thick.
Anyone dealt with the head gaskets from kiwi cylinder heads? Only 57$ but not sure if they are steel.. if not i'll be staying away

you don't happen to have a good website to find that in the states huh or company, worst case scenario anywhere.
