Removing fly wheel bolts?

Postby blairreed » Thu Jun 18, 2015 7:45 pm

Whats going to be the easiest way to get the bolts off tried beating it with a hammer but it didnt seem to budge it is there a trick to getting the fly wheel to stop spinning?

Also any tips for replacing clutch and main seal would be much appreciated.

Cheers guys :D

First isnt there a tab washer under all bolts This needs to be knocked down.
A second socket on the front pulley nut should work but putting it on a different flywheel bolt should also work

I use a large pry bar and jam it into the ring gear and use some bellhousing bolts to stop it rotating.

Mine didn't have any lock tabs.

When you replace the seal note how far in its sits. You might try working it further in as the crank will have worn and even with a new seal it will leak again.

When refitting everything make sure you use the correct torque.

1L per 200ks? That's quite bad. Are you sure that's coming from the rear main?

I'm just assuming thats what it is plus the provisos owner told me it was leaking from there. the clutch was slipping and when I took the gear box out there was a good puddle of oil in the bottom of the bell housing. I'm kinda guessing thats the only way oil could get into the bell housing ?

rear main seals do leak but most of mine have leaked around the sump half moon seals aswell, if it still leaks you can drill a small hole in the bellhousing or put a v down the back of the 6mm steel backing plate so the oil runs outside the bellhousing

Also do the front seal in the gearbox just in case. I didnt and soon after hard gearbox oil dripping. Drilled a 2mm hole in the bell houseing to stop it pooling in there rather than take the gearbox out again. I was only looking at a few drips though

Did you not look at the old one???? it should say transmission side on one side of it, but the side that protrudes out with the step faces out from the flywheel, it will only fit one way as it will hit the flywheel bolts anyway
