Correct oil level, 4jx1

Postby BighornNZ » Fri Apr 15, 2016 7:47 am

Hi Guys,

Could someone please tell me the correct oil lvl and or amount of oil to be putting in the 4JX1? 1998 Isuzu Bighorn UBS73GW incase that makes a difference.

Using Penrite 5w/40 full synthetic, problem is there is so much conflicting information on the quantity to use, Manual says 6.0 litres, owners manual says 7.5 litres, have seen both on various forums as well, and some saying fill to the top mark. So does anyone actually know the correct amount I should be putting in?

Am currently in the process of replacing the oil pickup seals, so no need to be overfilling to check these.

Cheers

they may be more than one sump so both might be correct
I would put the 6l in then wait 5 minutes and check the level and adjust as required. Do not fill past the full mark

Thanks Geeves, Is there an ideal lvl on the dipstick that it should come to? I read somewhere about 3/4 between the marks...sorry for all the questions, have heard that running them with too much oil can cause just as many issues as insufficient oil so just want to be sure before I drive Christchurch on Wednesday

Anywhere between the marks is fine I would get as close to full as I can though.
Too much can splash up under the pistons causing oil smoke and if severly overfilled can enter the breathers causing serious damage

Your other post is about a check engine light?
Related perhaps. Where is the oil level on the stick after it has sat overnight
