rodeo intercooler

Postby Shatts4 » Sun Aug 07, 2011 10:46 pm

G'day,

Just wondering if anyone can help me find an intercooler and scoop for my tf rodeo. 2001, r9 tf, 4x4, 2.8 td, 240 000 kms.

I have done a forum search which returned no relevant results, but please tell me if I have missed any!

Any other tips for doing the mod would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Hi there i am new to this site my name is schrodes.
I have just completed this mod myself.
I have a 97 TF 2.8,
from wreckers i got a bonnet scoop, intercooler from a jackaroo.
Step 1 : lifted the body only 50mm
Step2 : placed intercooler on top of motor using jackroo mounts.
Step 3 : cut recess hole in bonnett, and then cut underbonnett surports back to the size of the intercooler.
Step 4 : fitted scoop and used the four bolts on scoop to secure it along with sealer.
Step5 : For the extra piping i went to plumbers supplier and got 45 and 90 degree copper pipe bends along with a staight lenght i think they are 50mm.
Step 6 : using existing pipes and ones from jackaroo and the copper bits was able to join and plumb job.

Has turned out great, marked improvement in power and economy. 10klm per lt per 100klm.
TOTAL COST $400.00 for intercooler, scoop and pipies and snorkel from wreakers
$ 20.00 for copper pipe and fittings.

I hopr that helps, if you need more just ask.

Thanks for the quick reply schrodes, sounds like I may have to look into a front mount. I am led to believe that body lifts in SA on a car with airbags are not legal, unless you have an engineers certificate. I have a mate who is a mechanic, so I'll see what he thinks, I know he told me front mount is preferable, but I'm not sure how difficult this would be on the rodeos. He is also still an apprentice and not all too familiar with diesels.

Cheers

Shatts4, why do you think that you need a body lift for an Intercooler?

I am fairly sure schrodes is correct, there isnt all that much room under the bonnet. Having said that I havn't gone out and had a good look. Do you know otherwise?

think it might be needed if you want to fit a thermo under it so it doesnt turn into an interwarmer when you are offroad

Shatts4, no I don't know for sure, especially on the later Rodeos like yours.

Ah I see. Well I have a few other plans before intercooling (cranking up that notorious front end [diff drop], exhaust) but if/when I get around to it ill post the result.
