New intercooler setup

Postby Powertruck » Thu Mar 04, 2010 10:10 am

Hey guys im currently in development of designing a new water to air intercooler for the Isuzu Mu. I've had alot of enquiries regarding intercooling the 4jg2 and the 4jb1. One of the downsides to fitting a top mount intercooler to the Mu is that you have to cut the hole in the bonnet mount the scoop and get it to seal properley around the core. This is all good but some people dont want to hack there bonet up and get its all resprayed after. I've had a custom Copper core made up which is like a barrell type intercooler much like the Denco kit you can get from aussie, I've made a 5 litre aluminium tank which sits up on the passenger side up by the firewall which contains the mix of glycol and water. There is a radiator mounted up the front which the water passes through after it has gone through the intercooler. This system works very well and keeps intake temps right down. The copper core used is alot more efficient than aluminium and dissapates heat much better, hence why its used in marine applications. I'm still yet to put a price on it but if there is much interest out there i will get a few made up and sell them as a kit. All fittings will be AN fittings 5/8th so you can run pushlock type hose to keep it nice and tidy and leak free.
I'll try and get some photos of the new setup so you can all see.

Regards

So the pictures are of a system that doesn't require the bonnet cut? I would be interested in the costs of either of these systems.

Mine is 13"x4"x4" so you may have to look around their site for the smaller one, the rest of the gear you can buy in Aus/NZ

As it says core only, when I brought mine I got the lot for $525 delivered, that was when the dollar was around 95 cents. the pump I got died so I brought a Craig Davis one $160 but I am not complaining. This is stll less then half the price of them in australia, and the best thing is I have already tested it for you's hahahahaha

All totally separate from the engines rad...pump is wired into ingination via wiper motor...I have the fan on mine as the intercooler radiator is behind the bull bar (my BB sits about 6 inchs further out than the norm) and I have used it. The piping i.s 5/8 I just use heater hose, pump can be either side of the rad, but make sure when filling with glycol and water that you have the pump running to eliminate all the air out of the system. Will try to find the photos I put up here some time back
