Over Head FOX tails and Chrome plated Grease Nipples

Postby muzila » Tue Dec 08, 2009 4:13 pm

I changed my front brake pads 2 weekends ago. Spilt some brake fluid on the drivers side suspention. Cleaned it up as best as I could.

Now my suspention and steering squeekes lyke hell on drivers side. So used the work forklift (15 tonne) and lifted my MU up so I could grease all the front end.

Guess what...... NOT 1 grease nipple in bloody sight!!! I kid you not. I even dragged my mate under there to have a look in case my eyes had totally failed on me.

Why can I not grease any of the suspention or steering???

Help please.

The only grease nipples up front is the one in the middle of the drive shaft, and the rest of them (two) are on the unis for the rear tail shaft. That is it.

You need to replace the parts with aftermarket one with nipples on them it's the only way..

The original ball joints probably had them for the upper and lower joints but not the tie rods. Most after market ones come with a blanking plug and spare nipple. Doesnt make much difference though Im still on my 3rd lower joint one side and second on the other and second upper joint both sides and lost count of tie rod ends. All the joints are fairly cheap

Most manufacturers dont bother with grease niples these days as the seals on the joints are so good that the grease lasts the life of the joint. (this is true as once the grease fails so does the joint) For the average road going 4wd this can be the life of the vehicle. Its only the joints of us idiots that submerge them in who knows what that have joint failure on a regular basis

Not sure that I'd bag Mr Isuzu's design work so easily.
I'm at 299,000ks and haven't replaced a ball joint or tie rod end yet.
