Just installed a new temp gauge I got on ebay, its made by Murphy gauge and its made for industrail engines, you can set it for any temp you want and when it gets to that temp the needle makes contact with the preset pin and a alarm goes off, I have it set for 210 degrees and have it hooked up to a backup alarm I got at the auto parts, so now if she starts over heating it will let me know before its to late. About 3 weeks ago a small heater hose went and I didn't realize it untill I noticed steam coming from under the bonnet, even with the gauge on the hood I didn't see it was getting hot untill it was to late, thats when I decided to look around for a fool proof gauge, and I went on line and came up with this one, they make um for oil pressure too, I happened to get this one used for $10 bucks so I got lucky. I'm going to keep my eye's pealed for a oil pressure one next. My son used to work for a tree triming outfit and he said they used those gauges on their wood chippers, they were gas engines and if the engine started to over heat or lost oil pressure instead of sounding a alarm it would ground out the coil and shut the motor down, pretty cool.
