4jx1 to 4ja1

Postby Cameron » Tue Sep 25, 2018 10:03 am

Gday everyone.
I have a jackaroo 1998 and a 4jx1 with a blown head from a blown radiator. Im not keen to spend any money on the 4jx1 considering all the problems people seem to have with it.
Instead i want to do an engine conversion.

Ive read alot about swapping it for a 4jb1 and 4jh1 but nothing about the 4ja1 (which i have recently come across for a bargain).

Can anyone offer me some advice on swapping the 4jx1 to 4ja1 into my 1998 jackaroo. I would probably swap the engine and transmission all together.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

4ja1 is pretty much a dead ringer for the 4jb1. Everything that you read about the 4jb1 also applies to the 4ja1. Only issue might be that 2.5 litre means it wont be a rocket ship
Sanding your knuckles before starting work can help. That way you cant skin them

Gday geeves.
Thanks for such a quick reply mate. I appreciate it.
I might look at giving the conversion a go despite the power loss.

Thanks again.

Hi @Cameron,

Good day.

Did you pursue on the conversion? Just wanted to get your inputs as I am on the same situation as you are.

Thanks.
