so ive bought a truck with a cracked head unfortunately but ohwell just got to deal with it. have taked the old head off and am planning on getting a second hand head and all the gaskets and stuff down from the isuzu specialist parts in auckland next week, I have had a quote for a new head and gaskets for about $1000 with the valves in it the second had one should be closer too $700 hopefully. is getting the second hand one about as cheap as it gets? also wondering as ive taken allot of stuff apart to get the head out is there any bits i could give a good clean up or whatever to improve reliability and performance in the long run? and does anyone have any tips for putting it back together? it looks to me like ive bent one or two of the push rods in the process of getting the head out is this a big deal? THANKS!
yea thanks thought that was the case, as we were pulling the head out at the last minute i pulled four skinny hoses off from around just above the fuse box there and in all the exitement forgot to mark which ones go back were i dont have a clue what they are for? but the skinny hoses came off with the head after i quickly pulled them out, how can i go about finding how they go back? can't find it in manual maybe looking at another bighorn could help
One goes to the vacuum pump on the alternator 2 go the the EGR valves on the inlet Dont know the other one. Easy answer is block the one to the vacuum pump and ignor the rest. I dont have these any more
Sanding your knuckles before starting work can help. That way you cant skin them
Shouldnt matter for a head job as the cam is in the block. If you take the timing cover off you will see 3 pulleys. Each has a 10mm hole in it that can line up to a threaded hole in the block. You put a bolt in each hole then replace and re tension the timing belt then remove bolts. If the cam is one tooth out the pistons kiss valves then do something very naughty to them

For Wairarapa, Bought a reco 4jg2 off isuzu specialists in auck for wife's truck, motor good, good to deal with , they supply no extra gaskets, cost $3800 delivered to deep south. internals all reco'd, pump, injectors only checked. Ron
