mostly except diesel can apear blue sometimes and white can be totaly unburnt diesel. You should only see white diesel smoke though on a cold engine

The saga continues (MU smoking)
Took timing belt cover off to check injection timing only timing marks I can see are on the crank pulley.
I have found some diagrams of belt removal but not any relating to all timing marks and their alignment.
Question, with the crank timing marks aligned TDC do the locking bolt holes for fuel pump and cam shaft also align to threaded holes behind the tooth pulleys?

I have tried to do this and would seem that the crank is 1/4 turn out, pretty sure the no1 was TDC, but rotated crank 360 deg just to check, but the holes are way out.

I'm confused, if this right the fuel pump is way out of timing and doesn't seem possible,
I'm not game to start messing with this until I have some more info on timing marks and their alignment.
Thanks for any help.

At Cylinder 1 tdc the bolt holes on cam and injector pump should line up with the threaded holes yes

GOOD NEWS,
Re timed with securing bolts in place and crank TDC, injection pump 2 teeth out and cam one tooth out, go figure.
Belt was a little slack but didn't think it would have slipped, it did!!
Blew a bit of smoke at first (put in some diesel cleaner) took for a run and all seems ok
Just a little sluggish of the mark and doesn't like our driveway (fairly steep) but probably needs some pump adjustment seems to get too much fuel (black smoke) when loaded up, but way better than before.

Thanks heaps to all the help and the advice.
I hope I can help some with the same issues.
Cheers

Did you replace the belt, idler and tensioner as well?

Post analysis --- Smoking engine

Little MU is running sweet again,
Timing belt was out 2 teeth injection pump and one tooth on cam cant figure how, but there we are!!
Also discovered why it was down on power on take off and smoking a little when loaded.... wire connection to the positometer on top of injector pump had detached some how, so that fixed that.

Many thanks to all you guys who helped with advice, I hope that if someone has similar issues this may be of some assistance.

This is one of the best forums I've been involved in

I did the work myself, I have a couple of friends who are diesel mechanics so had another source for advice.
The Isuzu MU engines are reasonably simple once you understand them, but must admit in the beginning it was a bit daunting.

I'm not sure but the hourly rate for a mechanic is around $90 AUD/hour, seems to be the going rate here.
Do some checks yourself first it might save you a few bucks
Good luck

I must of had the belt of 3 times chasing a seal leak
& 5 times checking tdc with a pump guage.
....... with the radiator still in :D
Why o Why didnt they use the same setup as the holden 2.8s?

early 4jb1s were the same as the holden ones
officially cambelts are more efficient and quieter but we all know the real reason

Hi all, first off, I agree an awesome forum! With the white smoke scenario, is it ok to run (wanting to go for a hunt, lol) until the shops open tomorrow to buy injection pump cleaner? Been getting the white smoke story for +- a day now. Thanks to any response.

White smoke can be unburnt fuel or water vapour. If its suddenly started doing it I would suspect the second and be looking for bubbles in the radiator. This would be a cracked head and not wise to drive it any distance.
