Does anyone know if a 2.8 can be easily fitted into the old 2.3 truck? What are the compatibilities re engine mounts, gearbox and ratios etc, diff setup, and what alterations are necessary

You have to use the mua gearbox. The rear diff is the same as the later front diff and the front diff is weaker. It has been done. Do a search on chev pup to 4jb1 conversions to see how it works in a ute.
You also get the weaker front suspension
