Hello folks. I'm from the US actually. I drive a 99 Rodeo with the 3.2L FI engine. I recently sucked in some water from the intake and hydro locked the engine. I have two possibilities. The 3.5L FI engine found in the troopers and the 3.2L found in the amigo and rodeo. Both are bolts on and nothing needs to be replace. I like the engines to be honest. If taken care of they last, the gas mileage is shitty though. From some research I've come to find out the 4JG2 3.1L diesel engine was offered in some 3rd gen Troopers out side of the US. I also saw a 4L diesel engine suggested somewhere. I have zero info on it though. if I could get some info on the 4.0L I'd appriciate it.
I'm mainly here for the 3.1L Diesel though. Lets put my rodeo out for a second. As far as the 98+ troopers go, in a trooper that came with the 3.1 4JG2, would one be able to take out the engine and put in the 3.5L 6VE1? Would it bolt up to the engine mounts and the trans? Because if so, then it will bolt up in my rodeo. I will only consider the 3.1L if it will bolt up. I might be a little flexible with the trans, since I might also import a trans and get rid of my 4L30-E. Assuming the trans will bolt up that is.
did the 98+ troopers at all come with a manual transmission? Possibly my favorite isuzu MUA5. Would it bolt up to that? Because I'm really interested in a auto to manual conversion as well.
Do I have any other diesel options?
I was told once I get everything in, I just need to get the wiring done, and if I do the trans as well then a different shifter assembly. Does anyone have a more detailed instruction of the steps I need to take to make this fully work?
People say the work isnt worth it and what not, but to be honest, my Rodeo is my first vehicle, and I've been though a lot with it and I love it. And I wouldnt mind the work and costs. And sure it might cost several grand, but it will definitely be cheaper than a reliable car. Plus I have a 600cc bike I ride as well. Point is, I need a truck, I love mine and I'm keeping her! So please dont make a "hey dont do this" post.
Any info would be helpful and appreciated! thank you in advance!
and if some of my info is off please understand that there is so little info about the diesel engines in the US. and I can barely find much on google.
