4JG2 1995 3.1TD Bighorn stalls after few minutes running

Postby loz50 » Thu Mar 07, 2019 9:32 pm

Hi All,

My 300,000km bighorn has just stared messing about, it is generally in great mechanical order, runs great, i have owned it 11 years - it is now used mainly on farm, but it is still rego'd & warranted.
Suddenly it has started stopping after running for a few minutes, It seems it runs longer from cold.
When it stops it is a dead cutout, all electrics still operating turns over etc but not trying to start.
after a few minutes it will start easily, run a little in a normal manner, then cut out again, when it is running it drives perfect and it feels electrical like a fuel solenoid shutting, not like gradually running out of fuel, have tried it with or without turbo timer set to operate, have replaced fuel filter, blown feed line through back to tank. no changes at all.
if it is idling when it cuts out, it gives a little rev up just before it stops.

any common issues that cause this?

is it a relay, switch or solenoid heating up then shutting off?

thanking you in anticipation :-)

just my 2 cents, the primer pump often gets a hole when you prime fuel in, if its still squishy when you pump it, then it needs replacing or fixing. should rule that one out easy.

Check the fuel filter, if its clogged it will do this sort of thing.
