Were C223s ever equiped with auto trans

Were C223 2WD utes ever fitted with auto trans ?
I havn't had a sedan road car for about 2 years, only been driving the jackaroos but I still have a VC Commodore SLE with a dead 253 V8 in it and have been thinking about fitting the C223T out of the rusty 87 jackaroo into it. Just thinking it may make an economical run around car and keep the miles off the Jack. Physically it looks like it will fit and I shouldn't have the trouble you blokes in NZ have with certification, (that sounds like a real PINTA !) but I think it would be best with an auto if possible. Did they ever fit autos onto the C223 in the "Rodeo" two wheel drives or were they only manuals ?

Diesel autos started with the later 4jb1t engines and even then they were useless off the mark. (gearing was too high but once they were rolling they were ok)
Dont think I would want a c223 with auto
