isuzu mu 3.1 no glow

Postby nzshooter » Tue Jan 20, 2015 5:17 pm

Hey guys, so my isuzu mu 4jg2 wont start...

The glow light on dash is not coming on, no click from the relay under the hood and a fuse which is called 8 engine back. L, 15A is blowing under knee panel. Soon as I turn the key to start this fuse blows. Turbo timer is working fine. Any ideas? Im guessing it's the relay, however im unsure what one???

Any help appreciated, cheers

fuse 8 covers the engine and reversing light. It should be 10A not 15. In the engine bay fuse 12 is a 60 amp slow blow for the glow plugs. I dont have a relay listing but it may be marked on the fuse cover.
I would try disconecting the turbo timer before looking too hard elsewhere.

Ok thankyou, I have checked the relevant fuses, the glow fuse (60A) appears to be fine. There is three relays outside of the fuse box under the engine bay, im wondering if that could be it. I will have glowplugs checked and go from there. Cheers

So it only blows when you turn to the start position on the ignition? Makes it sound like it may be starter, starter solenoid or related wiring.
If so, check the wire that runs over the back of the motor to the starter solenoid (as per my reply to one of your other posts) or even the solenoid itself.

Is all ok when the ignition is only in the "on" position?

Yes everything is fine when in the 'on' position besides the glow plug light. Starter motor turns over fine. I will check tonight but I'm sure the fuse blows when attempting to start, however it may be when in "on" position.
The truck was in water the week before this happened so could possibly have something to do with it. I think this one is a bit beyond me so may be a tow to the auto sparkey I think!!

Cheers for the help guys

how much water?
Water can do horrible things not just due to its wetness either. It can push wires around corrode things etc. If it was sea water its 10 times worse

It was fresh river water, few small river crossings, nothing too deep. Went through one hole that came up over the bonnet which was the deepest its been in. It didn't miss a beat though and went fine for the next week..

Do you own a multimeter? Check the voltage across that fuse to find out exactly when it blows. Check the voltage across the glow plugs to see if they are glowing at all
Instead of guessing try one step at a time
