dash button lights

Postby Captcol » Wed Mar 17, 2010 3:06 pm

Alright, its me again, asking questions again

I have two buttons, the rear demister and hazard lights that do not glow with the dash lights turned on. I have pulled them out of the switches and they are a tiny little bulb in a plastic holder, I checked with the multimeter and they are about 1.2-1.25 votls. Where the hell can i get the bulbs from, I went to repco and dicksmith today and there was alot of "What the hell is that???" (made me feel so much better that I went to the "Experts")

Anyone know where these are stocked? or what to ask for?

And as an alternate option anyone know of tiny LED's that would fit in a ice blue and work with 1.2 volts?

Once I get enough knowledge I will start answering questions instead of asking them all the time

very nice, I will try supercheap tomorrow otherwise will get dse to order them in.

Just checked the dse nz website and they say they have them in order. The bulbs in the switches are a little different to the other dash illumination blubs, ie no wires, sit in a little holder with legs similar to led's that wrap through and around the holder, these could still work if I stripped the insulation off

Dick smith had them on the shelf so all the buttons are up and running now, just have to fix the back lighting in the AC panel and some of the lighting for the buttons there, I think that will be a mission. Oh well next time the dash is off, will look at some of the vibrations as well.

Getting to the lights behind the heater controls is easy.

Have just realised you have a 96 Wizard and am not sure what their dash looks like.
The photos in the above post were taken in a 92 Mu.

An update on the AC - got the unit out - you have to remove the lower part of the centre dash - which means taking of fthe top part as well. Changed the bulbs - these are slightly larger than those in the buttons so the little green condoms don't fit very well and will probably fall off, plugged it back in and then all hell broke loose.

Make sure when you put the bulbs back in that when they twist into place that the wires from the bulb do not splay out and arc one of the tracks on the primary circuit board - when this happens it creates alot of smoke.

For the moment no AC, going to see the local wreckers tomorrow to try and get a new panel - all this because I wanted all the lights to glow ....
