Can you tell me what size socket I need to remove the pinion nut on my diff please?

unless you fit a new crush washer count the threads instead of measuring the torque.
New crush washer is designed to be set to the torque with the pinion aligned correctly but as it crushes it should only be used once. If you retorque it it overtightens the pinion. By setting the nut in the same place on the thread overcomes this even though it will seem loose. Remember to restake it
Sanding your knuckles before starting work can help. That way you cant skin them
