Front Wheel, bad toe out

Postby Mutank » Wed Apr 12, 2023 6:24 pm

So my 1997 Wizard, as above suggests is suffering bad toe out.
I have replace the knuckle twice now after the bearing decided to die and fuse the outer race to the bearing housing.
I thought the first knuckle was bent and have gotten another one, but same problem.
Apart from the knuckle the only other thing I have changed is the lower ball joint which came with the first knuckle. It is pretty new and looks fine. Is there a chance it could be bent? I thought being made out of cast it would break before bending.
If that's not the problem then what have I done wrong?

Tow out camber or both. Camber could be affected as there are 2 possible lower ball joints one for wide body one not. This will also affect tow. Tow in is adjustable at the tie rod. Make sure the steeringh knuckles are good and then with the steering wheel straight ahead adjust using either a long straight edge or a string and 4 identical spacers so both wheels are straight ahead and parellel. Remember this is a rough and ready adjustment to get you to the wheel alignment shop.
Sanding your knuckles before starting work can help. That way you cant skin them

Hello, I should say camber I think. The top of the wheel leans in towards the vehicle.
The ball joint I was given was off a two door MU.

Compare it to the one on the other side. Wide body Mus do exist but Im not sure Ive seen a widebody wizard. If its not that next fault is control arm bushings followed by chassis cracks. Im assuming its not lifted as this affects camber esspecially if its had a ball joint flip. To adjust camber is a matter of removing shims

The vehicle is lifted but had an alignment and was fine before the knuckle change.
Hasn't had a ball joint flip.
I have a new ball joint that was supplied by BnT.
I'll take the old one out and compare them.

Have a look at these 2 links. Dont worry about were they are as I just went looking for pictures

First link shows the joint you should have. Second shows the joint I think you have

Thanks a lot, I'll have to pull the current one out and check it. I can't tell the difference currently.

Here are some parts book numbers for the Mu lower suspension arm and lower outer ball joint.

Here are some parts book numbers for the Wizard lower suspension arm and lower outer ball joint.

Lower Suspension Arm (Item 84).
The Mu seems to have had three versions of lower suspension arms and the Wizard seems to have had two versions, although the first looks like it was only for one month of production (November 97).

Lower Outer Ball Joint (Item 48).
It appears that the Mu and Wizard share the same lower outer ball joint across all models/years.

I hope this helps eliminate some variables.

It looks like there is a couple of versions of the Wizard knuckle also.
I don't know what the differences are.

Thanks for the info everyone.
Looks like it might be the wrong knuckle.
I have taken the lower ball joint out and it appears to be correct.
I have some pics but even on the lowest resolution settings they are too big.
