Rons MOOOO

Postby rcolijn » Tue Mar 30, 2010 7:55 pm

Hi all,

I bought mine a couple of months ago and am slowly working on it, following mods done:

- Changed shoocks to adjustable Ranco ones
- Cut the silly spoiler back to 4wd mode
- I thiink it has a larger than normal exhaust pipe
- Turbo Timer
- Added some roofbars
- Ripped out the backset and am creating some drawers this week
- Bought some brandnew tyres (AT, standard size)
- I think she has non standard rims
- Changed all oils
- Removed the side steps, looks way cooler!!!!
- Put the standards air filter back again (open ones are illegal in NSW)

Nothing special so far, plans as follows:

- Raise maybe 2 inches
- Cruise Control
- Intercooler, probably standard kit
- Snorkel and K&N filter
- Locker at the back
- Some better front seats (maybe the bucket types)
- Barwork (like proper side steps, rear bar etc)
- Maybe bullbar
- Some good lights

Check it out:

open type filters are no good for off road either. The chance of sucking water is too high

Down here we have bull bar proof gates. They are made of Armco on 150x150 steel frame.

I'd be interested to see your fridge/centre console idea.

I was thinking about it too, a slimline fridge with cup holders up front (MU doesn't have any).

But I think the Waeco one was too tall, so you'd have no room for your elbow when shifting gears.

Still keen to find a solution though!

Andy.

Nearly there with my snorkel, just put a temporary top on but I will mould one from fibreglass when I have some more time .

Also need to paint those screws in the roof but run out of black paint.

From airfilter through body approx 35 cm, one 90 degrees elbow, 90 cm to another 90 degrees elbow, then 30 cm rubber hose through narrow bit and than outside, 45 degrees up to roof approx 80cm, then 2 90 degrees. Arround the hole in the body I just sliced open a petrol hose and with a lot of glue glued this arround so it won't rust. On the roof bit just made a bracket and used 2 self tapping screws in the roof and on the pipe, it sits pretty solid.

Just in case somebody wants to know, pvc $21, paint $15, petrol hose $3.95 and rubber hose $ 15 = $55, better than A$395 as advertised on eBay, and I thinks looks better actually (blends in more as the eBay one is a big blob)...

Forgot to mention that the original antenna was too long so replaced this with an el-cheapo roof antenna which workes really well (actually better than the original one).

Starts to look good and she dooes have a bit more power at high speeds.

Also replaced the horrible carpet with some nice black stuff which I picked up from eBay, plugging heaps of little holes in the floor (dont know what they had installed in there). I actually placed some extra underaly under the carpet hoping this would insualte better and make the cabin a bit more sound proof, and maybe also waterproof lol.

Carpet:

On to the drawers and centre console hopefully tomorrow.

Does anybody know what the wires are for which are under the carpet?
There is one under every seat and a single one in the middle, they are not connected and I am thinking about using the middle one (which has power) for some extra sigarette lighter holes in the centre console. They should be allready fused I presume?

Advice???

ps, re the centre console, I have decided not to go fridge style, no money at the moment so I'll just make one from wood I think (wich I have laying arround anyways). Will build in the cup holders for sure, will keepy this thread updated!!!

Pictures to come when completed, but drawers first.

looking good, interested in your plans for the drawers, I am going to mold some cup holders out of fibreglass one day. At first glance I would have been tempted to make the snorkle abit shorter

Thanks for your feedback, the snorkel will be shorter after I have attached a proper snorkel top. I'd like one with a large intake to take advantage of the increased airflow, I think its called ramp air or something. I am planning to fibreglass something soon and as I did not know how long the top would be I left the pipe rather long, its easier to cut off than to to weld on!

Drawers, I have no plans as of yet, I am thinking about attaching a small "kitchen box" against the door like this one:

Image
(I apologize for copying this image but I could not link to it remotely)

But besides that just straight forward drawers made from an old bedroom closet I rip apart. The challenge was to make this with minimal costs as I am between jobs at the moment and dont have squillions available on drawers slides and stuff...:)

Today I hope to finish my centre console, tomorrow hopefully the drawers.
