problem is there are 2 4jb1 engines and all the filter books dont describe them very well. If you pick up any filter book it will say one filter for non intercooled 4jb1 and a different one for intercooled. This is somewhat misleading. All pre 88 engines use the non intercooled filter but after 88 all japanese produced vehicles have the intercooled filter but Aussi and european produced vehicles continue to use the non intercooled filter. The actual way to tell the difference is wether it has a gear or belt driven cam. If your wagon has a cam belt it is the same filter as the 4jg2 so will not fit out of the box
Sanding your knuckles before starting work can help. That way you cant skin them
